The proof is in the pad.

Look at the picture above. That is what a Shark steam mop's pad looks like after a single wipe down of a particularly unused kitchen. The pad has managed to suck up all the dirt that was on the floor and from what I've seen, the pads on these steam mops are ready for a second round! But I don't want to be stuck buying pads for my steam cleaner, no matter how amazing it is now do I? The Shark steam company knows that the cost of replacing the pads is one of the biggest reasons why steam mops never took off when they were launched over a decade ago.

The pads that ship with the shark steam mop are designed so that they can be washed with your whites in a washing machine. Just make sure you add a little bleach and maybe a tiny dash of disinfectant to ensure that your pads come out looking like you just bought them at the store. While I plan on testing the Shark steam mop a lot during the coming holiday, from whatever I've seen now, the Shark steam mop pad could easily live through a hundred more washes.

Unlike a Swiffer, you don't have to run around replacing pads every two days, and the convenience as well as the savings make it worth the price.

The Shark Steam Mop - A quick review

Despite the extended list of features that the steam mop supports, it weighs only three pounds (3 still is the magic number here!) The reason why you care about this is because you can easily stick the mop up on a hook in your broom cupboard or behind the dish washer if that is what you want. I have two hooks lined up side by side so I can stock up the mop next to the filling container which is the best way to get water into the mop without any spills.

While the steam mop ships with two microfiber cleaning pads, I suggest you order a few more if you're going to be cleaning your home everyday since each will last you about a month of daily use for a large home. Another surprising little feature of the Shark steam mop is way the steam mop pads are attached to the head of the mop. The pads are attached though threaded hooks and loops instead of velcro which is what one usually sees other mops tote. Your mop pads will last longer and not end up around your house in tattered bits.

The 20 foot long cord is a blessing and is as durable as those found on Hoover and Dirt Devil vacuum cleaners with a thick rubber coat so you don't end up damaging the cord as you move along washing your floors. The 8 ounce water reservoir can clean up about 400 sq. feet worth of space before needing a refill which means you can get about 15 minutes of runtime with this mop.

For those of you who live in apartments that are walled up or in areas which don't tend to get dirty as easily, you will appreciate the reduction in chemical that you will end up storing in your septic tank. What that means for you is that your tank won't rust and will last longer saving you replacement and maintenance costs.

The Shark steam mop represents the epitome of the mop technology in nay way that it might exist in today's day and age. There was a time, not very long ago when the mop that you could wring out by twisting a handle on the stick was considered the rage. Now they've got a mop that pushes out steam with a simple pump-action to help it keep you floors clean! This of course is all thanks to the EuroPro company who've been working to bring innovation to the home cleaning appliance market for more than a century. The Shark range of cleaning mops as well as cleaners is their latest attempt at taking the scrubbing out of the cleaning equation. Come to think of it, no matter what kind of abrasive solvents or detergents you use to clean you home as of now, you will end up scrubbing the place down which happens to be the most time consuming part of cleaning a home.

The optimum way to use a steam mop is to sweep or vacuum the floors first and then give it a quick go over with the mop. If you live in an apartment you can use the mop straight away but if you have pets around or live in a home with a garden next to it, you should sweep first and mop afterwards. The steam mop is great for getting stains out and providing a sheen to your floor but fails at collecting pet hair off of your floor — that is what the Shark Vac-Then-Steam is for!

The Shark steam mop uses the dirt and grime destroying power of steam (as well as the heat) which allows you to clean a place as well as disinfect it in one go, and did I mention — NO SCRUBBING! Not only is getting a Shark steam mop the smart decision as a home maker, it is also a financially sound one. If you look at how much money you'd usually spend at the local Target buying floor cleaning supplies you'll realize that it is easily $20 - $50 a month. That means that over the course of a year you will be spending $250 a year just on cleaning supplies for the floor! With the shark steam mop, there is no need for that!
